Years ago, as I was hiking a new path, I was asking God about my future. I had encountered people who had such clarity about their long-term plans, but I could not see my own.

I had been so occupied by my prayer. Suddenly, as I scanned the path ahead, I realized that the fall leaves blanketing the ground concealed the path. This was a problem. I was in the middle of the woods, and I had never hiked this path before.

As I looked down, I realized that the next three feet of the path ahead of me were visible. I was close enough to see that the leaves on the path were slightly crushed, and many were turned over. Looking ahead again, I still could not discern past that.

As I considered this, I sensed a promise from God that He would show me the next few feet as I continued walking. I could trust that “[my] steps are established by the Lord” (Psalm 37:23).

Looking back many years later, I have experienced God directing me when it was needed.

Are you uncertain because you cannot see the path ahead? Take the steps you do see and trust that God will reveal what is next when you need to know it.
