It is amazing how much our present circumstances dominate our thinking as we think about our life in the future. Early on staff with InterVarsity I thought I would always just see two or three steps in front of me.
However, as I hike I found that depending where you are on the trail, your perspective is different. Sometimes you can see far ahead on the path, sometimes far behind, and at other times you cannot see much in either direction.
Interacting with God over this reality I have begun to see the same reality in the seasons of my staff career. Sometimes I see the next step but other times I can see a long section of path in front of me.
My sense is after reflecting on the path behind me during this sabbatical, that the path in front of me would be laid out clearly in this next season. May it be so.
