Reflect Actively for Deeper Fruitfulness

When Jesus Walks in the Room

Putting himself and students into more risky situations is what InterVarsity Staff, Brenden Graczak, felt called to do as he prayed in January.  In response to this invitation, Brenden decided to trust Jesus by leading his international student chapters through a form of listening prayer.  Brenden guided 27 students in St Louis through questions that helped them visualize Jesus walking into the room and conversing with them them about hurt and pain in their lives.

Many students had powerful experiences during the prayer time, especially one woman from a North African country.  She has been studying the Bible and gaining trust with Jesus and during the prayer time she saw him approach her dressed in white and shining with bright light.  Although she holds closely to another religion, Brenden is praying that this experience will break down some of the remaining barriers to her following Jesus.

Reflect, Shine, Share

Have you thought about the best ‘dish’ you have to share with others around you? Just like we likely have a few food specialties – things we bring to social events. Each of us has best ‘dishes’ to share with our communities.

At the Black Campus Ministries Staff Conference I shared one of my ‘dishes’ and helped six other staff do the same.

That night I encouraged the audience to:

  • Reflect on an idea that has changed the way they have engaged with others or on situations around them.
  • Shine that idea in a way that they can quickly and effectively communicate it to others.
  • Share it with others.

How about for you? What is one of your best dishes? Would you take the time to Reflect, Shine, and Share it with those around you? If so, I would love to hear about it.

A New Level

Some seasons of life we are invited to take a step up. The growth is noticeable, the new perspective, clear, to us and others. The last 6 months have been a season like this for me. In part due to my sabbatical and also through the engagement with my amazing ministry partners.

Two weeks ago on my monthly prayer hike, I took a ‘stretching’ route that invited me to step up to a new level. As I looked over the valley below and the hills in the distance, I felt the call to go higher. My prayer in that space, as I considered the soaring birds in the distance, was for the winds of the Spirit to elevate me.

Thank you for your continued prayer and partnership. I am grateful for the journey God has us on together.

More than a Resolution

This time of year when exercise equipment goes on sale and diets get started, everyone is thinking about how to make lifestyle changes that improve their 2017 and beyond.  If spending more time in scripture is a habit that could use some encouragement, InterVarsity has recently made it’s inductive reading plans available on Youversion.

These plans take you through the gospels providing three daily questions (observation, interpretation and application) to help you dig into the scriptures.  There is also a two-week topical study called Summoned: Stepping Up to Live and Lead with Jesus.  This study explores important scriptures about the brokenness of the world and ways Jesus invites us to share his healing presence.
